"McDaniel at Woodstock"
McDaniel simply evinces all of those technical skills which command my respect and make him such a superb draftsman. There is simply no "bad" picture here: his use of hard edge line, subtle shading and stumping, crosshatching, and attention to detail bespeak an artist with pride -- perhaps even reverence -- for his gifted hands. The 55 drawings of this exhibit have been gathered into a book, Catskill Mountain Drawings, which includes McDaniel's personal statement about landscape drawing -- a statement, incidentally, that is as elegant as his art. If you are a drawing aficionado and didn't see the show, do yourself a favor and purchase the book.
